Moldow Design's Strategic Move to Portugal
My decision to set up my own production in Portugal in early 2021, during the COVID-19
pandemic, demonstrates my dedication and initiative. I took a risk by booking a one-way
ticket to Portugal and renting space in a carpentry production between Porto and Lisbon in
the small town of Ourem. Fourteen years ago, this town was a significant player in the
furniture industry, with around 80 manufacturers. Although the number of manufacturers has
now been reduced to 8, it has created significant opportunities for Moldow Design. I now
have my own production facility, which covers 1600 m2 and is equipped with all the necessary production machinery. The decision to start production in Portugal stemmed from
the lack of fulfillment of quality standards, delivery requirements and growth potential from
my former manufacturer in Poland, as well as my distributors in Denmark. The direct connection from production to the customer that I have chosen makes sense for all parties involved and ensures control over quality, delivery and competitive prices. My story is a
testament to entrepreneurship and the ability to make strategic decisions for success. It’s
clear that I prioritize quality and control over process, essential for building a sustainable and competitive business.

Our Unique Design
Our innovative design approach, where the shelf forms the silhouette of a wine bottle, adds a
unique character and look to the wine shelf. This common thread throughout all our designs
creates a recognisable signature style that stands out and that you can only find with us. The
unique and well-considered design concept not only provides a beautifully appealing
appearance, but also manages to convey a connection to the core of the product – in this
case, wine.
This shows how our design philosophy creates a unique range of furniture that
stands out with Danish design. We have great enthusiasm for the use of brass and for fine
details in our designs. Brass is an essential component in many of our wine racks and
storage solutions. Examples include a brass base shaped like either a burgundy cup or a
champagne glass. The addition of brass to our racks helps to enhance their luxurious
character.
